Born in Christchurch in 1976, Bic Runga is a singer–songwriter of Chinese and Māori (Ngāti Kahungunu) descent. Her albums have sold over twenty times platinum, and she has received many Tui awards for best songwriter, best singer, and best producer as well as the prestigious APRA Silver Scroll song writing award.
When Bic was eleven, her mother bought her some drums, and she was inspired by The Carpenters, whose lead singer, Karen Carpenter, was also a drummer!
