“Invalid Words” Annual 3

I was born on a big ol’ rock amidst a bunch of nasty food-grubbing apes (barbary macaques) in a little nubbin off the Southern coast of Spain called Gibraltar. Drawing was (and is) an act of play, and I would occupy myself and my wee brain by doodling and imagining up stories and worlds to live in. I kept this up when my family shifted to New Zealand when I was ten.

My love of comics and graphic novels (plus animated movies and shows) led me to pursue a design degree at Victoria University of Wellington, where my interest in illustration and comics was fostered by a number of brilliant teachers.

Some of my more recent endeavours include the comic series “Heart of Nums”, which documents my favourite experiences with food around Wellington (I’m not so different from the nummy-grubbing apes after all). I like long walks down dark streets in dramatic weather, eating (and drawing) yummy things, and am currently teaching and tutoring students in comics and illustration at uni.
