Lynley edmeades
“Island” Annual 2
Lynley Edmeades was born in Putaruru a number of years ago. She grew up on a farm with lots of cows and some lambs in the spring. Her first memory of writing poetry is up a tree beside a little creek down in the back paddock at the back of the house where no-one could find her. She loves cats and poetry and Dunedin and her nieces and nephew, who may or may not be reading this book right now.
“My favourite books when I was about ten were The Secret Garden by Frances Hodgson Burnett and Z for Zachariah by Robert C. O’Brien. Although they’re very different, I think these two books appealed to me for the same reason – a sense of imaginative and solitary existence, mysterious and challenging at the same time. I still look at big overgrown gardens with a sense of awe and imagine there’s a gate in there that leads to a secret place.”
